about

notes&things started as a simple idea: what if all the seemingly unrelated thoughts, questions, projects, and conversations in my life had a shared space to live?

This site is that space. A home for dialogue across disciplines and deep dives into the things I’m curious about—whether that’s the future of humanoid robotics, the quiet intellectual pull of Catholic mysticism, building a board game from scratch, or rethinking how we live and work in a world that’s changing fast.

It’s part lab notebook, part fireside chat. Some pieces and posts will be interviews with people building or thinking in compelling ways. Others will be solo reflections or notes from projects I'm working on—from newsletters to investing strategies to app experiments.

At its core, Notes& is about seeing connections where others see categories. It’s about staying intellectually awake. And it’s a reminder that unfinished thoughts are still worth sharing.

If someone gets something positive out of it, that it’s accomplished a little bit of what I hope for.

Cheers to learning, exploring and adventure!

short bio

I’m Eric Verdeyen — a dentist, entrepreneur… and I aspire to be a “thinker” :-)

I’m drawn to the quiet intersections of technology, culture, creativity, and the examined life. Notes&Things is where I pause to reflect, share what I’m learning, and explore the questions that don’t always fit inside a silo. I spend most of my time giving their smiles back, building media projects through c1w, and thinking about how to live more intentionally in a world that’s moving faster every day.

My path has been somewhat multifaceted. I earned both a B.A. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of Illinois (UIUC), where I also studied Global Studies and Arabic. That journey took me from immersive language study in Syria, Morocco, and Egypt to public policy work in Washington, D.C., where I interned at a think tank and on Capitol Hill. Over time, I pivoted toward business and entrepreneurship—founding a few scrappy business, deep-diving into marketing and operations, and small business consulting.

I grew weary over sales and spreadsheets and wanted to re-engage my desire to serve others in a more tangible way. I moved toward medicine, and I enrolled at the University of Virginia’s post-bacc pre-med program, ultimately landing on dentistry. I earned my DMD from the University of Pennsylvania and completing an AEGD residency at the VA.

Today, I split my time between clinical practice, creative ventures and the markets. Through c1w, I’ve launched newsletters like Mechonomics, The Gen Creative, and The Future Bite, each exploring how AI is reshaping our world. I’m also the co-creator of Pirate Panic, a cooperative board game.

Across all these projects, I’m fascinated by where disciplines meet: art and analysis, belief and systems, story and structure, and I am incredibly grateful to have a massively supportive, loving… might I say.. beautiful wife of 12 years. And must I not forget, Teddy! Our lovable, playful, and not too-energetic golden doodle.

If you’ve made it this far, and think think we could be kindred spirits, let’s connect!
